Three sarcophagi have been found floating in an irrigation canal in Minya, Upper Egypt. The wooden coffins had drawings of women on the surface, their faces clearly shown, but only two of the three contained mummies. Both were largely disintegrated due to the conditions they had been in. The Ministry of Antiquities released a statement saying they believed the mummies were discovered through illegal digging and local residents had disposed of their finds in the sewage. After some restoration, the mummies and sarcophagi will be displayed in Minya’s Hermopolis Museum. Read more: dailynewsegypt.com
