Dublin hotels now half the price of London and Paris rates

Dublin can be heaven with the knowledge that your city centre hotel is half the price it would cost if you visited London or Paris.

Tourists pay an average of just under €100 a night for a hotel room in Ireland‘s capital which looks good value compared to London at €197 and even better when prices against Paris at €255.

The Irish Independent reports that occupancy rates in the city have grown to 78% since 2012 because of favourable pricing.

Sarah Duignan of STR Global consultants said that prices were so competitive that Dublin came way down the table in 12th position in a survey of 20 European cities.

Speaking at the Irish Hotels Federation conference she pointed out that the Irish capital now had the third highest occupancy, with only London and Paris boasting a higher rate.

Economist Alan Ahearne said the more competitive tourism sector in Ireland had helped create 30,000 new jobs in the last three years. A lower VAT rate of 9% had helped to increase employment, he declared.

The Irish tourism sector delivered more “bang for your buck” than any other part of the economy, he added.
