Around 200 skiers were stranded in cable cars in the Italian Dolomites resort of Val Gardena after strong winds brought a huge tree down onto the cable, threatening to snap it. A dramatic rescue operation swung into action, with mountain rescue experts and firefighters lowered from helicopters onto the roofs of the 20 affected cabins and terrified skiers evacuated using ropes.
