In the tiny village of Castelbosco in Italy, local farmer Gianantonio Locatelli has created a new museum showcasing the virtues of a normally rather uncelebrated subject – dung. The dairy farmer had previously built an elaborate waste treatment plant, designed to turn his cows’ manure into methane, fertiliser and raw materials to make bricks and plaster. The new museum is located the local castle, which is heated by energy produced from the methane, and showcases various dung-related exhibits, including fossilised dinosaur faeces, a collection of dung beetles and art works inspired by human waste.
