Asia & the Pacific, Weird, Odd & Just Plain Fun
At Rinyirru National Park (CYPAL) in Tropical North Queensland in Australia a rare moment was caught on camera by onlooker Sandra Bell as an enormous crocodile attacked a smaller member of its own species.
The dramatic photo series shows how the giant predator managed to sneak up on the smaller one and viciously attack it.
The park posted the photos to its Facebook saying that they had been taken just metres away from a sign that warned visitors and passersby about lurking crocodiles. The park took the opportunity to remind people to be vigilant: “It’s a good reminder to remember to be croc wise in croc country.”
There are lots of crocodiles around these parts of tropical Queensland. Male crocodiles are known to eat smaller crocodiles and some experts believe it is a territorial way of getting rid of competitors.
