All eyes are on the UK’s Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle thanks to their impending wedding, and honeymoon destination rumours are also beginning to swirl. While speculation is growing that the happy couple are planning a ‘mini moon’ in Ireland after their 19 May wedding in England, accommodation site, Booking.com, has decided it’s the perfect time to take some holiday inspiration from the British Royal Family.
It looked at the royals’ favourite holiday hotspots to bring you six top destinations fit for royalty. And who knows, maybe Harry and Meghan might pitch up in one of them once they’ve tied the royal knot.
In keeping with their safari-themed proposal, it is rumoured that Harry and Meghan will be spending their honeymoon in Namibia. With stunning mountain backdrops and vast swathes of desert land to witness elephants and big cats in their natural habitat, this could be the ideal honeymoon destination for the soon-to-be newlyweds. Booking.com suggests that Shipwreck Lodge is in Möwebaai is the perfect location for a secluded safari stay, with sea views on one side and a backdrop of sand dunes on the other.
Glamorous St-Barth’s or St-Barthélemy is a favourite of the rich and famous, with its beautiful beaches, designer boutiques and luxury restaurants. Princess Beatrice has holidayed here on several occasions. Hotel Christopher Saint Barth is one of the bestselling hotels in Gustavia as its secluded location makes it the perfect spot to unwind. You can take a dip in its infinity pool, which overlooks the Caribbean Sea.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, have stayed in the quaint, mountainside village of Méribel in France. It comes complete with dramatic views, alpine chalets and shopping for the non-skiers. Hôtel Alpen Ruitor is located in the heart of the Three Valleys and it offers panoramic views of snowy scenery and a south-facing terrace to unwind after a hard day’s skiing.
Known as the location where Harry and Meghan decided to get married, Botswana is a fantastic holiday destination for those who have always dreamed of a safari adventure. The four-star Masa Square Hotel is ideally located just a short drive from the Gaborone Game Reserve, where you can gaze in awe at wildlife in their natural habitat. After a day of wildlife spotting, relax on the hotel’s rooftop pool terrace and enjoy a well-earned meal at one of the two on-site restaurants.

The Banyan Tree is located on Mahé Island and offers luxurious villas with private pools and direct access to the beach. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the outdoor seating area is the perfect place to watch the sunset with your loved one.
This exclusive ski resort is a playground for the rich and famous with its luxurious chalets and wine caves, and it attracts celebrities such as the Beckhams, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jude Law.
