A mutilated Costa Rican toucan named Grecia is to get a prosthetic beak through public funding after news of its attacked provoked public outrage. The bird lost part of its beak when it was attacked by youths. A campaign to gift the bird with a prosthetic beak quickly gathered pace after pictures of the toucan were circulated in Costa Rica’s newspapers and on social media, sparking public outrage from a nation that prides itself on environmental conservation. Four companies have taken up the baton to design a first-of-its-kind prosthesis that will help the bird eat. Prosthetic beaks have previously been created for an eagle and a penguin in the US, but never before for a toucan. Read more: bbc.co.uk
