It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, or glass of water, but authorities in drought-stricken California are looking at providing drinking water from treated sewage. The process is known as direct potable reuse and could relieve some of the pressure on severely strained resources after the worst drought in the state’s history. Farmers already use this type of recycled water on their crops but putting it into the taps of California’s residents is likely to cause a response of “eww”.
