Coney Island – ‘America’s playground’ for the New York area, is about to get its own beer – by the barrel load. This follows the green light from the New York State Liquor Authority to Coney Island Brewing Company to open up right beside MCU Park – where the Brooklyn Cyclones are based – on Surf Ave.

A division of Samuel Adam’s parent company has been granted the license to brew in the area and the brewer could slot into a once-time pizza shop alongside Peggy O’Neill’s bar, the New York Daily News reports.

Coney Island Brewing’s Alan Newman pointed out that the company is “100% inspired” by the area – the people of Coney Island, the famed boardwalk and the beach.

“We couldn’t be more excited for this new adventure,” he stressed, adding that the romance of Coney Island is with all those who have experienced the place.

The new site will house a full-scale brewery, together with a tasting room. There will also be a retail shop where customers can buy their favorite Coney drink.

Up to now, the beer has been brewed upstate under an agreement with the old owner, Shmaltz, in Clifton Park.

The company hopes to open this summer and the decision to grant it the thumbs up is expeted to add considerably to the strip now anchored by the MCU Park complex.

Co-owner of Peggy O’Neill’s, James Quigley felt the new brewery enterprise would be a great boost for Coney Island. “We want more business out here,” he said.
