Brace yourselves thrill-seekers – new London zip line will be the fastest in any major world city

There’s exciting news for thrill-seekers who plan to be in the London area over the summer. A giant urban zip wire that is believed to be the fastest in any major city in the world is to due to open in Archbishop’s Park near Lambeth Palace on 7 July.

Participants will ascend a 35 metre-high tower, which is more than the height of nine double-decker buses. As they descend, they will approach speeds of 50 miles-per-hour as they complete the 225 metre descent and touch down at a landing tower 12 metres off the ground.

The descent is rapid, taking only 30 seconds, and it will provide amazing views of landmarks like Big Ben, the Shard, the River Thames and the London Eye. However, the whole experience will take 40 minutes, including a safety briefing and kitting up in the gear. And as English weather is unpredictable, Zip World London will still run in the rain, although not in the event of storms or extreme weather.

Riding a zip wire is really popular thing to do, and many visitors to Paris enjoyed a free zip line experience from the Eiffel Tower earlier this month. There is also a one mile-long Zip World line at Penrhyn Quarry in Wales, whose operators are partners in the London attraction. There will be two lines in London, giving a capacity of 60 riders enjoying the ride per hour. One line is taut for heavier participants and the other is slacker for lighter riders.
