Birders celebrate as millions of migratory birds arrive in Alaska

On Thursday two Alaska festivals mark the arrival of millions of shorebirds to the state – the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in Homer and Cordova’s Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival. Both signal the time of year when migratory birds swoop into Alaska’s feeding and nesting grounds for the summer. A few species have flown thousands of miles, with the bat-tailed godwits travelling the farthest – 7000 miles from Australia to New Zealand to Alaska. Towns across southern Alaska celebrate the yearly migration with festivals and local bird walks. Read more: adn.com
