Bali requests Indonesian ‘beer ban’ exemption

Bali’s provincial government has requested an exception from a new government regulation that will force minimarkets across Indonesia to take beer off their shelves from next week. Designed to ‘protect the morals and culture of society,’ the clampdown, if enforced, is feared to have a far-reaching economic impact, especially in Bali, where thousands of locals make a living selling beer to thirsty holidaymakers.
