Geologists in Austria have warned that the country’s glaciers have started melting at an unprecedented rate and could disappear altogether by 2050.

The Pasterze glacier, which lies beneath the Grossglockner mountain, shrunk by a full 10m this year. The shrinkage is being blamed on global warming, and there are fears that the loss of the glaciers could damage the ski industry in future.
