If gazing at the stars is your idea of the perfect vacation, the new Bubbletent retreat in New South Wales may be the perfect glamping experience for you. You can camp in one of three luxurious bubbles overlooking Capertee Valley, which is the second-largest canyon in the world and a mecca for birdwatchers.
The bubble dome tents are called Leo, Cancer and Virgo, and each is transparent, inflatable, and air-locked. The 1000-acre property they’re pitched in is set on a clifftop 800 metres above the canyon floor and surrounded by wild, national parkland setting, providing spectacular views.
There is a hammock spot in the shade, a campfire to light at night, plus a daybed with a hood to lounge on, and you can create an ambience with the different playlists on the iPad provided. You can take a photo of the moon crater with the telescope in your tent, and admire the cute sheep, goats and any spectacular wildlife that you can spot.
When night descends, a dazzling blanket of stars unfolds thanks to the remoteness and darkness of the location, and you can look straight up at them from the comfort of your bed. Local activities include wine-tasting, trekking, hiking and bird-watching, as well as helicopter tours over the valley and heritage tours in Glen Davis.
Capertree Valley is located approximately halfway between Mudgee and Lithgow, and 200km outside the Sydney central business district. Guests bring their own food provisions or they can drive 45 minutes to Mudgee, which has cafés and eateries. Capertee Service stations plus its hotel are located 25 minutes away, and there is a café with varied opening hours 10 minutes away.
