The centre for at-risk children received an anonymous gift of US$50,000 from a kind-hearted donor who placed the wad of cash under the baby Jesus in the nativity crib on the front lawn. To ensure that the money didn’t go astray, the generous altruist then phoned the children’s home and directed the receptionist to where they money was hidden, reports the MailOnline.

The president of the orphanage, Darrin Murphy, said the lady who received the call was initially confused and then totally shocked when she lifted up the baby Jesus statuette. He told ABC7 News that everyone connected with the centre “was taken aback” by the generous windfall. Describing the financial gift as a “true blessing”, the president said that the orphanage depended on public donations for three-quarters of its revenue.

During the phone call to the receptionist, the donor said he was moved to make the donation by the plight of the children who were unable to stay with their parents in a conventional home setting. Mr Murphy said he told the children of the gift and highlighted to them that there were people out there who believed in them and their futures. He said they were very excited that their own good behaviour had been the root cause for the person making the large donation to their centre.
