The Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music, joined by Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, are set to open this year’s Roskilde Festival in Denmark on 25 July.
The non-profit festival is renowned for donating its profits to humanitarian and cultural causes, and a spokesperson for the event said that the performance would highlight “…how music and culture can make people come together and overcome borders and conflicts.” Albarn has previously performed with the orchestra at the Damascus Opera House in 2008.
