A new floating Arctic hotel in Sweden is opening soon

If you’re no longer content to watch the Northern Lights from your own personal igloo, then start making plans to stay at a floating hotel and spa in Sweden.

The travel company behind Sweden’s famous Treehotel will soon launch a floating hotel that glides on top of the water in the summer and freezes into the ice on the Lule River in the winter.

The six-room Arctic Bath Hotel and Spa will, naturally, also feature a bath, which has a unique look “inspired by the timber floating era, reminiscent of how felled trees were transported down the room for processing.”

With an open centre, the Arctic Bath is designed for sunbathing, ice bathing and for watching the stars and Northern Lights. It will also make for a truly Scandinavian experience, as the bath will be very cold – perfect when combined with a warm sauna and spa. According to the company, a special technique has been developed to keep the centre of the bath open during wintertime. The spa and hotel are expected to be ready in early 2018, but guests are able to book in advance through Off the Map Travel via email info@offthemaptravel.co.uk or telephone +44 (0) 800 566 8901.

“The circular shape of spa and Arctic Bath creates a protected environment sheltering guests and creating a haven to relax and soak up the local Arctic environment,” said Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel and Arctic travel expert, in a statement. “You can experience the spa bath and stay overnight in a room that will float or be frozen into the ice, depending on the season. This will be a one-of-a-kind Arctic experience. Although all seven buildings will be securely anchored in place they are freely floating in water or frozen into ice.”
